Patio Garden Refurbished!

Just in time for the great weather our new patio furniture has arrived - new tables and chairs making the layout more adaptable and allowing us to accommodate larger parties.

We’ve also added some artwork from Miro, the famous Spanish Modern Artist together with some photos of his sculptures taken on a recent trip to his studios in Mallorca.

When the sun is out it’s just fantastic to eat outdoors with some great food and fine wine under the canopy of our grape vine!

And should the weather turn, we roll down the shower-proof awnings and turn on the infra-red heaters to keep you dry, warm and comfortable......

The Next Challenge!

Following the hugely successful and life-changing challenge to cycle from Bangkok to Angkor Wat in 2008, I have now signed up to cycle across Africa (well, a bit of Kenya) in support of The Lord’s Taverners Disability Sports Appeal.

We raised an impressive £6300 for Myton Hospice directly through the restaurant in 2008, so this time I have set my sights high at £10,000!

We will be raising the money through “table donations” of £1 per visit, a JustGiving site (details soon) fundraising events at the restaurant and personal sponsorship.

Your generosity will be highly valued!

Son comes back from University for the weekend and his phone is tweeting all day! I ask what’s he’s doing and he’s tweeting ... apparently you can twitter to see who’s posting locally so he suggested that we set one up for Catalan. Great in the summer when tourists are looking for somewhere to go. Post a tweet and they can log into the website to see what we have to offer! Sounds great .... so here goes! The first tweet posted ... now I have to remember to post daily! Why not follow us?

I have just been notified by Tripadvisor.com that because we have received so many “Excellent” reviews on their global website, we can now proudly display their coveted RECOMMENDED ON TRIPADVISOR logo on our web pages and marketing materials!

I love Tripadvisor and use it myself whenever choosing hotels or restaurants. It’s like an electronic global “word-of-mouth”. We’ve grown our business on word-of-mouth recommendations locally, Tripadvisor spreads the word for us much farther. And like real word-of-mouth, the bad reviews have to live alongside the good. We know we can’t please everyone all of the time but we have a damn good go of it!

And to prove the power of the site, last night we had two tables in who had not heard of us before and booked yesterday on the back of our Tripadvisor rating. Many thanks to Emma and Lawrance and to all the guys from Warwick University! We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Smokin’ Joe & Sondra Return.....!

Our furthest flung “regulars” Joe & Sondra, paid a visit to Warwick and Catalan last week. Joe & Sondra had lived in Warwick for two and a half years while Joe worked on a special project for UPS, and returned home to Alabama in September 2008. When they left we joked that we would have to adjust our business plan to accommodate the downturn in takings that their departure would inevitably spark. Not only us but Art & Wine, and Fascino too!

We arranged a get together with many of Joe & Sondra’s friends, together with Catalan staff past and present to celebrate their return and wish them a bon voyage for their trip home.
